This magnificent Yew tree has been known to my family for over 30 years. It is a very special yew tree as it is thought to be one of only three of it's kind in the New Forest.
What makes it so special is that many, many years ago a square section was cut from its trunk to make an oven door. The tree has grown and rotted since this happened but you can still clearly see the flat saw cut at the bottom of the aperture.
My father was shown this tree by a work colleague of his called Ron Chamberlain (of Brockenhurst) who was in turn shown by his father who was a Forester.

This beautiful old yew sits alone in an enclosure surrounded by managed firs, like some lovely old cottage that has had housing estates built all around it...it really is a very special place that has a strange mystical feel about it!

The tree cover will hinder a decent GPS signal so i would suggest the following to help-
Walk down the main path and stop JUST BEFORE your arrow points 90 degrees to the left.
Turn yourself 90 degrees to the left of the path and walk 100 paces into the trees and you cant miss it!

The cache contains the following-
Donnie Darko DVD
How to get ahead in Advertising DVD
Toy Ring
Karabiner
Metal Puzzle
Bottle Opener
Spinning Top
Post-It Notes
Metal Badge
There are also 'first to find' prizes of a Book Reading Light and a Mobile Phone Signal Booster for the first lucky cacher!

I TOOK THESE COORDINATES ON AN OLD ETREX AND THEY WILL BE
FINE FOR PARKING AND LOCATING THE CACHE BUT IF ANYONE FEELS THAT THEY CAN GET A MORE ACCURATE POSITION THEN I WILL BE HAPPY TO UPDATE THIS LOG ACCORDINGLY!

Happy caching and best wishes to you all for 2008

PS- If anyone has any more information on the oven door
history in general or the location of the other two trees i would love to hear about it!
