This is the 2nd stage in the recommended bike ride from Santa
Rosalia Mountain to Aptos. I think this could be especially fun for
families with kids. Please check GC17ZAK, stage 1 for more
information.
This site is the most difficult one to reach of all the stages, and
reason enough to do a downhill bike ride. If you ride or hike down
from the top, you have a tough climb back to the top. If you ride
or hike from below, its even tougher. So, the easiest way to get
this is to make this be part of a one way downhill bike ride. If
you want to wait for the rest of the stages to appear, they will be
ready in a few weeks. Rating this cache is based on nabbing it on a
one way downhill bike ride. Any other way is more difficult because
of the distance and steepness. This small to regular sized
container is hidden within 15 feet of the big old redwood tree
named Lone-Tree Prairie, one of the really special old-growth
larger trees of the park. It is deep in the park, about half-way
between Sand Point overlook and Santa Rosalia peak. You can't miss
it if you keep an eye out for this large tree right on the road, on
the right side, as you zoom down the mountain. It is in deep tree
cover, and gps signal is pretty bad, but if you use the picture,
and don't forget to keep your eyes open, you can't miss it!
Make sure you stop at Sand Point overlook if you are riding down.
