Geocache Description:

The cache is about a mile from Highway 395 in the Alabama Hills of Lone Pine, off Whitney Portal Rd. Take the paved driveway just before the Alabama Hills sign for a parking lot off the main road. Cache is a short walk in the natural landscaping and remember: “Don’t Crush the Brush”. As always, be careful of native critters when reaching into hiding places. Cache is a plastic jar with log book, pens and misc. geoswag. Bring your own pen in case ours goes MIA.

There are information signs and picnic tables in the parking area, so stretch your legs, have a little lunch and enjoy the beautiful views. ** “Don’t Crush the Brush” is the motto of the Lone Pine Alabama Hills Community Stewardship Group. Local residents and businesses have joined together and partnered with the Bureau of Land Management to meet and greet visitors to the Alabama Hills. Docents patrol the area and pass out information on the ethical use of the land. People are asked to practice, “Leave No Trace” - no litter, no scarring fire rings, no vehicle damage to the natural landscape. In addition, the group does cleanups and road restoration projects in the Alabama Hills each year. **While in the Lone Pine area, visit the Film History Museum (donation)and learn about the history of films made in the Alabama Hills/Lone Pine area. **The Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce on Main Street (Hwy 395) and/or the Interagency Eastern Sierra Visitor Center at the junction of Hwy 395 and Hwy 136, one mile south of town, have plenty of info about the area also. CONGRATULATIONS to kidstogo on being FTF and their first FTF too!!!
