Ermida do Barranco do Velho

Pela EN2 chegamos ao Barranco do Velho, uma pequena aldeia localizada nas portas da Serra do Caldeirão, zona de grande tradição corticeira, onde a cor dominante da paisagem é o verde dos sobreiros e das azinheiras. Dificilmente se encontram "tiradores" de cortiça, mas em Junho, se contactarmos o Gabinete Técnico-Florestal, é possível assistir a esta tradição. Subimos mais um pouco pela estrada até à Ermida do Barranco do Velho, de traços tipicamente Algarvios, erguida em 1944, no cimo do monte. O seu adro faz desta um dos mais maravilhosos miradouros do Alvarve, abrangendo vastos horizontes de montes cobertos de sobreiros e medronheiros. Perto do local existe uma pequena casa de artesanato, onde se podem adquirir alguns produtos serranos.

Pretende-se com a colocação desta cache, salientar a beleza do interior Alvarvio, sua cultura e tradições serranas. Incentivar o contacto com os ecossistemas naturais e os prazeres da serra, na tentativa de aumentar a consciência na preservação das florestas e serras.

É favor não esquerer da máxima C.I.T.O. (Cache In Trash Out), para benefício de todos nós.

Aconselha-se aos geocachers e restantes visitantes, que façam a aproximação à cache e ao recinto da Ermida, pelo acesso de estrada em terra batida de coordenadas:

For the road EN2 we arrive at Barranco do Velho, a small village located in the doors of Serra do Caldeirão, zone of great cork oak tradition, where the dominant color of the landscape is the green of the cork oak and holm oak trees. It's hardly to find cork oak "extractors", but in June, if we establish contact with the Forest Technician Cabinet, is possible to attend this tradition. A little more ahead by the road, the Chapel of Barranco do Velho, with typically traces of Algarve, raised in 1944, on the top of the mount. Its forecourt makes of this Chapel, one of the most wonderful panoramic sight spot of Algarve, enclosing vast landscapes of mounts covered of cork oak and strawberry trees. Close to this place a small store exist, where it can be acquired some cultural and agriculturist products.

The intensions of this cache, is to point out the beauty of Algarve interior, its forest culture and traditions. To stimulate the contact with natural ecosystems and the forest pleasures, in attempt to increase the conscience in the preservation of nature.
