My 1st Christmas Cache (AA-09) Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

BaSHful: Long promised, much delayed, it's finally time to say goodbye to all my Amazing Adventure caches for all the reasons previously mentioned.

However, I have not yet collected in the cache containers, which might not be for a few days or even a couple of weeks. I will post a further note here when I have done so.

In that interim period I will still accept 'Found it' logs, if there's anyone left who's desperately keen to make a find.

BaSHful.

Geocache Description:

Solve the cipher or solve the maze - your choice!

The co-ordinates above are not for the cache itself but for a possible starting point. I don't particularly recommend it but it is possible to squeeze one car on to the verge at this point. Please don't block the gateway.

Choice 1 - The Cipher

Co-ordinates and hint are contained in this cipher text:-
vrbfeuisdpivrfeieslabjtrvrgqtrmhrpwcsawsjbrithiftixqiimfipicwtvlwxuovipei
I'm using the Vigenere cipher. Your task is to find the key I've used! All the information to enable you to do this is contained within this cache page. Clue: back (in two different ways!).
You should assume N51 and W000.

Choice 2 - The Maze

Note: The below link leads to a web page on my personal website containing a java applet (same as for all my previous caches). For this to work you need to have the java runtime environment (JRE) installed on your computer (which it usually is by default). If you have any concerns about running java applications on your computer then you should probably stick with trying to solve the cipher.

Still with me? OK, go to:-

See the Instructions link to learn how to navigate the maze. This should be straightforward, at least it will be once you've realised what the theme is. Just the one troll to deal with this time (as it's Christmas).

Either choice

You're looking for a small clip lock container. The log sheet is contained in a small screwtop pot in the cache. There is no pen in the cache - please take your own writing implement.

Note: Lest anyone be put off by HortonHunter's experience (see log) let me state that there is definite public access to the woods where the cache lies. On the occasions that I have been there I have observed lots of walkers, not only on the public footpath that runs within 250m of the cache, but on the many other paths and tracks that criss-cross the woods, including the path that runs within 10m of the cache. The paintball area, which is well marked, is a good half kilometer away from the cache and if you get anywhere near it you are seriously lost. That said, having made some enquiries, it is apparent that some adhoc activities, of various sorts, do, from time to time, take place in these woods, so perhaps you do need to be prepared for a little mini-adventure!
