Geocache Description:

SK:

V rokoch 1935-1938 prebehlo budovanie najrozsiahlejsej a najnakladnejsej stavby v historii prvej ceskoslovenskej republiky.

Opevnenie bolo budovane podla vzoru francuzskej Maginotovej linie. Pozostavalo z tazkych a lahkych objektov. Tazke objekty zahrnali pechotne zruby a delostrelecke pevnosti.

Tazke opevnenie pravej strany Dunaja bolo v tejto dobe prakticky dokoncene.

Okrem toho existovali 4 velitelske objekty a niekolko dalsich doplnkovych stavieb. Stages tejto multikesky vas zavedu ku vsetkym dvanastim existujucim zrubom bojovej linie.

Nezabudnite si so sebou zobrat meter. Budete ho potrebovat.

Prosim nepokusajte sa v tychto miestach o drive-in.

Spocitajte vsetky, pripocitajte jednu chybajucu, a dostanete okruhle cislo F.

Stage8 B-S-9 "Kittsee"

Mala vstupna miestnost bunkra ma dve zamrezovane okna. Pozrite sa na mrezu na pravej strane. Pocet jej zvislych tyci je G.

Stage9 B-S-10 "Tri hranice"

Zo strechy objektu trci rura. Odmerajte jej priemer a zaokruhlite na desiatky cm. Priemer = H cm.

Stage10 B-S-13 "Stoh"

Mrezu v sucasnosti tvori I zvislych tyci. Kedysi to bolo este o jednu viac.

EN:

In the years 1935 to 1938, Czechoslovakia was building a massive fortification of its borders. Thousands of forts were built against the threats from Nazi Germany, but also from other neighboring states. It was planned to build the whole line of border fortification until 1951, with the exception of 200 km border segment with Romania. Moreover, the strategic inland lines should have been fortified, too. The construction was canceled in september 1938, as a result of the Munich Treaty.

The munition was inspired by the French Maginot line. It consisted of light and heavy objects. The heavy fortification mainly consisted of a line of infantry blockhouses. Their embrasures were oriented along the line, so that the lines of fire of neigboring blockhouses were overlapping. From the enemy's side, the forts were smothered by soil. Anti-tank and anti-infantry obstacles were installed between neighboring objects.

The budget of the complete munition was planned to be 10.9 billion Czechoslovak crowns. Until the end of the construction, about 25% of this amount was actually spent. After the construction stopped, the half-built forts remained in different states of completion. The heavy fortification of the area on the right bank of river Danube was at that time complete. During the war, this area fell under dominion of Germany. However, the objects were not destroyed, as in many other places.

15 infantry blockhouses were built in the area of Petrzalka. Out of those, 12 survived till today. The other three were destroyed during the massive building of new Petrzalka - the suburb of Bratislava. In addition, there were 4 commander forts and several supporting objects. This multicache will take you to all of the 12 remaining infantry blockhouses of the battle line.

Don't forget to bring a distance meter. You will need it.

The stages of this cache are not about nice places. Actually, you may encounter a lot of trash at some of the objects. Moreover, homeless people or vandals may sometimes reside in the forts. So, please don't go caching at night, and if you feel unsafe while getting a particular clue, rather post me a message to get it.

If you are searching in a wet season, be prepared for tons of mud in your way. It's not recommended to go caching dressed in white linen trousers.

For those who are still not fed up with bunkers, there is a sequel available.

NATURE CONSERVATION: Stages 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 12 and the final cache are located in nature-protected areas. Please don't try to drive up to these locations. Especially critical are the last stage and the final location, which are located in a nature reserve with 5th (highest) grade of protection.

Stage1 B-S-1 "Sterkoviste"

2m inside the blockhouse, there is a graffiti tank sprayed in red. The number of its visible wheels is A.

Stage2 B-S-2 "Mulda"

Climb to the roof and look at the right steel dome. Measure the diameter of the opening in its top. Diameter = B cm.

Stage3 B-S-3 "Paseka"

Measure the width of the embrasure next to the entrance. The width should be measured at the outermost point of the embrasure opening. Round the width to tens of cm. Width = C cm.

Stage4 B-S-4 "Lany"

This fort is currently undergoing renovation. Climb to the northwestern observation dome. Some 6 meters away from the dome, there is a stump remaining of a former multi-trunk tree. The number of its trunks was D.

Stage5 B-S-6 "Vrba"

Walk from the bunker 30 m towards the freeway. There is a small memorial stone. On the black stone board, there are E lines of white text.

Stage6 B-S-7 "Cviciste"

This stage is in the middle of a corn field. It is inaccessible for a long part of the year due to heavy mud or corn. So, it is up to you if you give it a visit.

Stage7 B-S-8 "Hrbitov"

This fort is being reconstructed by a party of enthusiasts. The activity has started in the spring 2009 under the lead of Mr. Kosirer. If someone is present at the site, you may enter the object and perhaps get a presentation. To get the clue, walk a bit along the road to the reconstructed war cemetery from World War I. Its main gate is decorated by short (10 cm) horizontal steel rods. Count them up, add one more (currently missing) to get a round number F.

Stage8 B-S-9 "Kittsee"

This object is also undergoing reconstruction. The small entrance room has two windows, blocked by steel grids. The grid on the right side has G vertical rods.

Stage9 B-S-10 "Tri hranice"

There is an iron pipe coming out of the object's roof. Measure its diameter and round it to tens of cm. Diameter = H cm.

Stage10 B-S-13 "Stoh"

The embrasure on the right side wall is covered by a grating. The grating consists of I vertical bars. Formerly, there was one more bar, which is now cut.

Stage11 B-S-14 "Duna"

The fort is equipped with J embrasures.

Stage12 B-S-15 "Ostrov"

Climb to the roof and count all the iron hooks along the rim. There are K of them (divisible by 3). Count only those that are still attached to the object.
