Em 1890, face à necessidade de
ligar Viseu à linha da Beira Alta, é inaugurada a Linha do Dão, que
ligava Santa Comba a Viseu com uma extensão de 49,300
km.
No dia 5 de Junho de 1894, a
Rainha D. Amélia efectuando uma visita ao balneário das Termas de
S. Pedro do Sul, quis homenagear as gentes da Beira e em particular
o Conselheiro Tomás Ribeiro, grande impulsionador dos caminhos de
ferro em Portugal. A sua viagem de comboio teve três paragens: Em
Alfarelos para almoço, em Tondela e em Parada de
Gonta
O comboio servia as populações
para as suas deslocações aos grandes centros urbanos. Tondela,
Viseu, Lisboa? Era no comboio que vinha a matéria-prima e seguíam
as encomendas que faziam o progresso da região. Os soldados que
serviam Portugal, apanhavam ali o transporte para os diversos
quartéis militares de todo o País. E o comboio, na sua passagem,
dava o sinal sonoro atravessando serras e vales, numa tal
pontualidade horária permitindo a substituição do relógio que o
agricultor não podia comprar.
Durante muitas décadas
assumindo-se como o único transporte entre os pontos mais
longínquos do País, o comboio a vapor viria a sucumbir na década de
setenta substituído pelos transportes rodoviários. Desde então todo
o património da então CP- Companhia Portuguesa dos Caminhos de
Ferro, na linha do Dão, está ao abandono, salvo raras excepções por
recuperação de terceiros. O encerramento desta linha deu-se em
Setembro de 1988, tendo sido os carris da mesma
retirados.
Actualmente a Câmara Municipal de Viseu
recuperou os primeiros 8 km da antiga linha do Dão, entre Viseu e
Figueiró, para construir uma ecopista, estando planeada a sua
construção pelo menos até Torredeita. Está ainda em estudo a
possibilidade de extensão da mesma até Parada de Gonta ou até mesmo
Tondela.
Esta cache é constituída por três
pontos e tem por objectivo dar-vos a conhecer uma parte da antiga
linha do Dão, entre Torreideita e Mosteirinho, onde existe uma
magnífica ponte ferroviária metálica com pilares de
pedra.
Entrem na antiga linha pelo
waypoint fornecido e sigam em direcção ao 1º ponto da cache, depois
de o encontrarem continuem pela linha até ao 2º ponto e deste até
ao 3º e ultimo. Enquanto a percorrem imaginem as imponentes
locomotivas a vapor de antigamente a correrem pela paisagem,
deixando um rasto de fumo branco e assinalando a sua passagem com o
seu característico apito.
Não tentem atravessar a ponte,
visto que, para além de ser proibido, é perigoso. É possível ir
muito facilmente de carro até ao primeiro ponto. No entanto, para
aproveitarem ao máximo o passeio, aconselho fazerem esta cache a pé
ou de bicicleta a partir da entrada na linha.

In 1890, in face to the necessity
to connect Viseu to the Beira Alta railroad track, the Dão
rail track is inaugurated, connecting Santa Comba to Viseu with an
extension of 49,3 Km.
In the 5 July of 1894, the queen Dona Amélia making a
visit to the S. Pedro do Sul Spa, wanted to pay tribute to the
Beiras people and, in particular, the Adviser Tomás Ribeiro,
a great impeler to the portuguese railroad construction. Her
train voyage had three stops: in Alfarelos for lunch, in Tondela
and in Parada de Gonta.
The train served the populations to their deslocations to the great
urban centers. Tondela, Viseu, Lisbon? It was on the train that the
raw materials came and the orders that contributed to the region's
development went. The soldiers that served Portugal used the
train as the transportation to the various military barracks in all
the country. And the train, at its passage, crossing mountains and
valleys, gave the sound signal in a such punctuality that it could
substitute the clocks that the peasants couldn't have.
During many decades assuming that it was the only way between the
country's most remote places, the steam train came to an end in the
70s, been substituted by the rodoviary transportation. Since then,
all the CP (Portuguese Railroad Company) patrimony in the Dão track
was abandoned, safe rare exceptions that were recovered by
outsiders. This railroad track was closed in September of 1988, and
the rails were removed.
In the present, the Viseu town council have
recovered the first 8 km of the track, between Viseu and Figueiró,
to built an eco-lane (to be used by bycicle and by foot). It is
planed it extention to Torredeita, and after it, even to
Tondela.
This cache is formed by
three points and it's objective is to let you know a part of the
old Dão track, between Torredeita and Mosteirinho, where there is a
magnificient metalic railroad bridge, with high stone
pillars.
Enter the track by the given waypoint and follow to the 1st point
of this cache. After you find it, continue by the track in the
direction of the 2nd point and, from this, to the 3rd and last
point. While you travel across the line, imagine the old steam
locomotives running through the landscape, leaving a trace of white
smoke and signing its passage with their typical whistle.
Do not try to cross the bridge, since it's forbidden and dangerous.
It's very easy to go by car to the first point. Although, to enjoy
to the maximum the walk, i recommend you to park your car in the
beginning of the rail track and go the rest by foot or by
bycicle.
