You can find the cache in a hollow (it is losely closed by a brick) in the wall of ruins. Ötvöskónyi village came into unifying two village. Ötvös (it means goldsmith) was the residence of metallurgical masters of Segesd county. Segesd county was the landed property of the current Hungarian queen consorts in the early 1000s. You can find two interesting targets in the village. 1. The cache is at the ruin that is situated on the little vineyard-hill of the village. Parking place: N 46° 17,172’ E017° 21,398’. The Ötvös castle was in property of the Báthory family in the 15th century. At the beginning of times of Osmanly invasion (1543-1689) it was fortified with clay mounds and strong fences but it was suitable only against Turkish robber bands and not against the regular army. It was ruined in the 17th century. You can see only the ruins of the basement level. 2. Large-leaved lime-tree giant (Tilia platyphyllos) N 46° 17,125’ E017° 21,557’ It is the largest lime-tree of Hungary in accordance with its trunk contour and it is very old. There are interesting legends about this tree. Its name is „Hétfa” (Seven-tree)or "Héthárs" (Seven-lime)because it origined by growing together of seven trunks of one stem. According to legends those are told of it the tree is originated from the times of Magyar (Hungarian) resettlement in the Carpathian basin it was in 896. The 7 trunks represent the seven Hungarian Chieftains of seven tribes. They say that the tree defended king Béla IV. when he made his escape from Tartars after the tragic Muhi battle (1241). Indeed, the tree is very old but it is in flower yearly. The circumference its trunk was 14 metres at the beginning of 20th century, but then was splitted by a thunderbolt and a very big hollow yawns in the trunk now. The tree is in the park of Chernel-mansion (today hospital ward) and you can step in the park free (gate: N 46° 17,000’ E017° 21,555’). In case the gate is closed, don't hesitate to call the gate-keeper by ring-signed button and say: I would like to see the 7-lime (szeretném megnézni a héthársat).
