A fine view of the high desert from 7100 feet
We suggest hiking in from road 28 on Hager Mountain Trail located about 8 miles south of the town of Silver Lake. The trail is around 3 miles one-way up to the summit - with the last mile being steep but with outstanding views that can range from Mt. Shasta to Mt. Jefferson on a clear day. The cache is best arrived at from the top of the trail system - a seeming shortcut, isn't. (The lookout at the top can also be rented during the winter months for snowshoers.) Check your map of the area before coming up, as there are also roads to the east open in summer that are near other caches and will also lead to a switchback road that will take you to the top (though a forest service gate may result in a mile walk at the end). Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a camera!
The cache is an ammo can. It should be out of sight of any muggles. While your there sign in at the lookout logbook as well.
