Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed by Buddhavista, adopted by ChucKremer, then adopted by Cwrfish in April 2021. The original description was left as-is below. The container was replaced April 10, 2022 due to aging of the old one and no longer water proof. The opening is now large enough for CD's!! See owner maintenance log on 12/05/2021 for more details.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 2022-04-10: New container in place with original log books as noted in my 12/05/2021 maintenance log.

The original cache description is below this line.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This cache is located near Barton's Creek and Falls lake in Wake county. This is a multi-stage cache, with a single control point and a primary Cache. The listed coordinates lead to the control point. There you will find an aluminum tag with the coordinates of the primary cache.

The location of the cache is not traveled often. The difficulty of the terrain will vary with the seasons. It is easiest to traverse during the winter when the weeds and grasses are down. During the summer, high weeds can be difficult. Watch out for critters too! The control point is located near a marsh, ground firmness will be subject to recent rains. The cache is located in falls lake game lands, please use extreme caution during deer hunting season (late fall). (I do not to hike this area during deer season.)

the details:

Park on the shoulder of Mount Vernon Church Road where it crosses Bartons Creek @ N 35* 57.611, W 078* 40.719.

You will know you are on the right track when you start to notice signs of beavers: muddy trails leading from the creek, bark chewed off tree trunks, dams, and stumps that look like they've been hacked off by a midget with a hatchet. The control point is cabled to a tree near a beaver lodge. It is no longer surrounded by a marsh created by the industrious beavers, but if you look to your left while facing the lodge (after you find the tag) you'll see a new dam they've built. The two old lodges have been modified by the beavers so they can still use them even though the water is much lower than it was. Look carefully and you'll see what looks like a heap of sticks alongside running down to the water. This is actually a tunnel so that they're still able to be safe. The original first stage was on a root ball and was muggled. The second was over the second beaver lodge you'll come to cabled to the huge sycamore tree that you see fallen across the stream (It is now under their tunnel). This is the third time for stage one. Let's hope it stays for awhile!

The Cache is hidden in a 'Good' hiding spot. You should recognize it when you get close. The cache is a large pretzel jar. It will hold a lot, but the mouth is too small for CDs (sorry).

Enjoy!
