A ponte romana de Vila Ruiva, sobre a Ribeira de Odivelas, terá
sido construída pelos romanos do século I a.C. mas, no entanto,
existem vestígios de acrescentos e reconstruções pelos árabes,
visigodos e outros povos que se seguiram à ocupação romana.
Esta ponte, com 116 metros de comprimento, largura entre 4,90 e
5,60 m e no seu ponto mais alto de 5,3 m, é umas das mais
monumentais pontes deste período existentes em Portugal.
Esta ponte fazia parte da antiga estrada romana que ligava Faro a
Beja e daqui para Évora e Mérida. Hoje, passados mais de 2000 anos,
classificada como Monumento Nacional, continua a ligar Vila Ruiva a
Cuba.
Composta por 36 aberturas, 20 arcos de várias tipologias e 16
olhais de descarga, 15 desses arcos e olhais não podem ser vistos
por estarem parcialmente soterrados. |

The roman bridge of Vila Ruiva of Ribeira de Odivelas, was built by
the Romans on the I a.C. but, nevertheless, there are traces of
additions and reconstructions by Arabs, Visigoths and other nations
followed the Roman occupation.
This bridge, with 116 meters in length, width between 4.90 and 5.60
m and its highest point of 5.3 m, is one of the most monumental
bridges of this period existing in Portugal.
This bridge was part of the old roman road that linked Faro to Beja
and from here to Évora and Mérida. Today, over 2000 years,
classified as National Monument, continues to link Vila Ruiva to
Cuba.
Comprising 36 openings, 20 arches of various types and 16 holes of
discharge, 15 of these arches and holes of discharge cannot be seen
because they are partially buried. |
