Geocache Description:

A simple offset cache using compass bearing. Updated 1-26-15 to reflect current conditions

At the Fall 2007 Delaware GeoEvent debchic arrived early and used the time for a quick lession in using a compass that she had just bought. This is a chance to test her new skill. A compass will make this an easy cache. Your GPS compass will kind of work. (see below)

The coordinates should take you to a field with a very large wooden object (at time cache was created) in Carousel County Park. Now look for a post ( one of two) that is sometimes part of a horse jump. THE CACHE IS NOT AT THIS LOCATION.

From there you must go:

On a bearing on 208 degrees (magnetic or compass)
about 50 paces

A pace = one step. Everyones pace is slightly different--mine is about 2.3 feet. There is a barrier that will prevent you from going too far!

The cache is a large plastic test tube 1 1/4 inch diameter by 5 inches.

Most of us have our GPS units set for true north, not magnetic north. The difference between the two occurs since the true north pole and the magnetic north pole are not the same. In northern Delaware, the difference is about 12 degrees, with the magnetic compass pointing 12 degrees west of the true north bearing. Knowing this you can correct between the two. Over a distance of 100 feet, the twelve degrees different will be about 20 feet apart
