ERMIDA DE NOSSA SENHORA DE MÉRCOLES - I.P.P.
A Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Mércoles está situada nos arredores
da cidade de Castelo Branco. Não se sabe quem a construiu, mas a
tradição atribuiu a sua edificação aos freires da Ordem do Templo.
Embora haja autores que sustentam a existência de um Templo do
período Romano. O portal da entrada e dois portais laterais são
ogivais. O pavimento da capela está em plano inferior ao do
terreno, sendo, por isso, necessário cinco degraus para se descer,
também há vestígios de frescos no interior. É constituída por uma
só nave e uma capela absidal. Sofreu obras de relevo nos séculos
XVII, XVIII e XIX.
Nesta capela é realizada a romaria mais importante da região e
da cidade é a romaria da Nossa Senhora de Mércoles, realizada na
segunda semana depois da Páscoa na respectiva ermida e terrenos
circundantes, que se situam a 2/3 KM da cidade. As
associações/bairros existentes na cidade desempenham um papel vital
na organização de festas que, deste modo contribuem para a
dinamização cultural da cidade.
