As origens
de Castelo Branco remontam a vários séculos atrás. Em 1213, o nome
"Castel-Branco" apareceu pela primeira vez. Em 1510, D. Manuel
nomeia esta terra "Vila de Castelo Branco" e, em 1771, D. José I
eleva-a a cidade.
Foram
encontrados diversos artefactos arqueológicos, que confirmam a
existência de um castelo antigo e a presença romana na colina onde
se situa a parte medieval da cidade, cercada por uma muralha, com
características únicas.
A "cidade
medieval", onde podemos encontrar portais do século XV, é
identificada por ruas estreitas e íngremes, que contornam o castelo
real, construído pelo Templários, e a igreja de "Santa Maria do
Castelo".
O centro de
cidade, Parque da Cidade e Jardim do Paço são outros locais de
interesse para visitar, numa cidade que combina uma tendência
moderna com um passado histórico e cultural rico.
O centro
cívico da cidade, também conhecido por “docas” foi recentemente
alvo de profunda remodelação no âmbito do Programa
Polis.
Trata-se de
uma praça ampla, pincelada de verde e cinza granito, onde existem
várias bares e esplanadas que durante o dia servem refeições leves,
transformando-se à noite em bares com DJ. Por aqui encontramos
crianças que brincam pelos relvados, casais de idosos que aqui
preenchem os seus dias de cor e alegria e muitos jovens, que pela
noite dentro convivem em grupos e desfrutam da animação do
espaço.
A cidade
tem vindo a desenvolver-se muito ao longo dos anos e hoje Castelo
Branco, capital do distrito, situada na Beira Baixa, interior
centro de Portugal, é considerada uma cidade moderna com uma
qualidade de vida excelente.

The origins
of Castelo Branco came through the centuries. In 1213, the name
“Castel-Branco” appeared for the first time. In 1510, D. Manuel
names this land “Vila de Castelo Branco” and, in 1771, D. José I
raises it to city.
Several
archaeological artefacts were found confirming the existence of an
old castle and the roman presence in the hill, where the old part
of the city lies, surrounded by a castle wall, with unique
characteristics.
The
“Medieval City” is identified by narrow and steep streets that
surround the royal castle, built by the Templars, and by the church
of “Santa Maria do Castelo”. In the “Medieval City we can also find
portals from the 15th century.
The city
centre and the “Jardim do Paço” (Bishop’s Garden) are other
interesting places to visit in a city that combines a modern trend
with a rich historical and cultural past.
The civic
center of the city, also known as "Docas" was recently remodeled
within the Polis Programme, a governmental program for
modernization of cities.
It is a big
square, flick of green and ash granite, where some bars and
esplanades exist, serving light meals during the day, and changing
into bars with DJ during the night.
Here we can
find children playing in the grass, older couples that here fill
their days of color and joy and many young people, that gathered in
groups amuse them selves during the night enjoying the animation of
the space.
The city
has grown and today Castelo Branco, capital of district, located in
the inner Portugal is considered a modern city with an excellent
quality of life.

O primeiro container é um rolo fotográfico que contém as
coordenadas da cache final. O percurso entre as duas caches demora
cerca de 15 minutos a pé e menos de 5 minutos de carro. Pedimos a
todos que tenham algum cuidado a retirar e colocar os
containers.
