Geocache Description:

A small series of simple caches in North Surrey Villages. They are all close to a popular focal point of village life (which may or may not be the pub!)

Chipstead is a parish on the North Downs.

Its name is variously spelt Tepestede, Chepestede, and Schipsted in historical record and is likely to have derived from the old English word ceapstede, meaning the market place. It is believed that the people of Banstead and Coulsdon may well have held a market there.

The first recorded settlement at Chipstead was in the 7th and 8th Centuries, when herdsmen, attracted to the local ponds, settled in the area.

The cache is located close to the village pond. There are several benches nearby where you can while away the hours duck watching!

At the weekends, you may be able to watch rugby being played on the nearby recreation ground.

Parking is very easy close to the cache, and the cache itself is a micro with a log book but you will need to bring your own pen. It can be reached without leaving a path, making this a very easy cache and dash.

Wheelchair users should note that the cache is about 5ft off the ground.
