Geocache Description:

Near a platform that overlooks a winding creek with a beaver dam. Part of path through meadow and part through woods. Not too hard of a hike though there is some overgrowth. I am not the best at spotting it so keep an eye out for the usual poison ivy etc. Park at N 39,53.167 W 086,18.832 ( same as for "Birdwalk" ) take left about 50-80 yards down the trail.

My family had hiked the trail from the parking spot, ( Starling Nature Sanctuary of Eagle Creek Metro park,) numerous times but never taken the side trail. My wife and I did recently and found a nice walk through tall meadows with a nice platform overlooking a winding creek with a beaver dam at the end. Total hike from parking is probably less than 0.8 miles. (Alternate parking at N 39,53.797 W 086,18.490 which is less than 0.2 miles from cache.) You can hike a little farther than the cache for more views of the reservoir and more water birds. Some of the trail on raised boardwalk so it may be wet after rains. Cache is a medium Tupperware with the usual kids goodies.

Edit 11/22/2010: It has been a year or so since the beavers were here. If you look to the right, from the overlook nearest the cache, you can see the remains of the beaver lodge on the right of the creek, ( it has been a very dry summer so it is really more like the right of where the creek usually is.)
