Geocache Description:

This is a cache which blends in well with its environment. Except for wait-a-minute vines, hungry car predators (deer), uneven terrain, reported sightings of a serpent, vicious geese, one very angry wasp, and a sparse crop of Rhus radicans, hazards are minimal.

On this spot in 1890 Andrew Jackson Mundy and his son, Erasmus, built Mundy's mill. Four generations of Mundys owned and operated the mill, which was still in operation in 1965. People came here to have their corn and other grains ground. This was also a popular community gathering spot serving as a place for dating, getting engaged, fishing, picnics, family reunions, weddings, and just getting together with friends. Churches used the stream for baptisms, revivals, and funerals. The photo is from the high school's website, and was given to the school by the Mundy family. It shows the mill prior to the fire that destroyed it in the 1980s. A scene from "Smokey and the Bandit" was filmed on this spot. A scene was also filmed on the road that passes in front of the mill site.
There are adventurous routes, scenic routes, and more-or-less direct routes to this cache. Since many of the visitors to the predecessor cache seemed to have taken the more challenging routes, we are giving it a relatively high terrain rating. Don't miss seeing the waterfall while you are here.

New 2/15/17: Geocachers may park in the designated parking spaces at the nearby Clayton county fire station and then walk to the cache.
