SideTracked - Kelling Heath Park Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Ascenders: Cancer treatment has prevented me getting out to this cache for the last couple of months as I have to rely on the good nature of other cachers to transport me so I am archiving this along with all my other caches. Thanks to those who have visited.

Geocache Description:

A small cache in close proximity to the platform

We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren't many Motorways in Wales) But what about public transport users? Side Tracked Caches are intended to provide quick Cache-and-Dashes at Train Stations.

It is hoped this idea will spread across the country in the same way as the MM's... but if hiding one PLEASE BE SENSIBLE and remember that in this day and age, public transport is under greater scrutiny than ever before, so, although these caches should be quick and easy grabs,PLEASE don't place a cache where it could cause alarm!!

KELLING HEATH PARK is on the POPPY LINE

The line, which is just over 5 miles long, once formed part of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway. At Sheringham it is divided from the national rail network by just the width of a road, and there are plans to reinstate the connection.

There are two stops between Sheringham and Holt, Weybourne (actually about a mile from the village and the former Army camp) and Kelling Heath.

The NNR operates both steam- and diesel-hauled services, and organizes a programme of seasonal special events. A museum has been built at Holt to display some of the lines many artefacts from the Midland and Great Northern Railway. The station building at Holt was originally built at Stalham in 1883 and in 2002 was moved, brick by brick, to be re-erected in its current location at Holt. This project was awarded second place in the 2006 railway buildings competition by the Heritage Railways Association of the UK. The signal box, which can also been seen at the station, is over 100 years old even though it has yet to be commissioned by the NNR. The full signalling system at Holt is expected to be complete by 2009 although some signals have already been erected.

If you enjoy steam trains this one is for you and there are other caches within walking distance.
