Since the Middle Ages, the settling of sand in the river mouth has been a major obstacle to the development of Pärnu’s sea trade. Ships with deeper draughts could not enter the port and it was troublesome to carry goods to ships in roadsteads with barges and small beach boats. At the request of major retailers in Pärnu, log walls were built in the river mouth between 1804 and 1811. After they were destroyed, a new Project was approved in 1862 to build new moles from stone.

The work started in the winter of 1859. The cornerstone was placed on 11 August 1863 by Baron von Lieven, Governor-General of Estonia and Livonia. Nearby farmers were able to earn a living by helping in the construction of the moles by carrying large amounts of large and smaller field stones to the site. By 1863-1864, both breakwaters with total length of 2150 meters were completed 230 meters from each other.

The moles have remained there almost exactly as they were built and have become a destination for summer vacationers. The breakwaters have put bases ta at least one tradition, people in love should walk händ to the end of a breakwater and kiss there to live ever after.

Cache is situating at the place, which shows to the sailor way to home and is for them like the home gate. The difficulty of walking on mole and reaching to the cache depends about the weather condition and the period of the year. It could be extremely dangerous if the water level is high or there are very fast wind. But even in nice days there can be treacherous risks. The rocks are partially covered with seaweeds and it can be very slippery even when it is shining and rocks seems to be dry. If you are careless, then you can fall and get seriously injured. Thus these reasons you have to be very careful and consider the weather condition adequately. Don’t take any risks.

Near to the mole is possible to park your car and also is there bird watching tower where you can enjoy the view to the gulf of Pärnu and to the coastal meadow of Pärnu.

1850 – luvun lopulla valmistui suunnitelma joka sääti kiviaallonmurtaijen rakentamisen Pärnu joen laskukohtaan. Työt aloitettiin vuoden 1859 talvella. Vuodeksi 1863-1864 olivat molemmat aallonmurtajat – joiden pituus on 2150 m ja etäisyys toisistaan 230 m valmiina. Aallonmurtajat ovat pysyneet ilman erillisiä korjauksia tähän asti, saaneet kesävieraiden kävelypaikaksi ja ainakin yhten perinteen alullepanijaksi: rakastuneilla pareilla kuulluu olevan Pärnussa velvollisuus kävellä aallonmurtajan päähän ja siellä ehdottomasti suudella.

Pärnussa on jo keskiajalta lähtion merikaupan kehitykselle pahimpana esteenä ollut hiekan kerääntyminen jokisuistoon. Suuremman syväyksen rahtialusten pääsy satamaan on mahdotonta ja sataman edustalle jääneistä aluksista tavaroiden rahtaaminen satamaan pienemmillä aluksilla ja veneillä on ollut työlästä. Pärnun suurkauppiaiden vaatimuksesta asennettiin Pärnun jokisuistoon voosina 1804-1811 ensin pystypalkkien muodostamat aidat. Kun ne lahosivat, vahvistettiin vuonna 1862 uusi suunnitelma runsaan kahden kilometrin mittaisten kivistä muurattujen aallonmurtajien rakentamiseen.

Työt aloitettiin vuoden 1859 talvella. Aallonmurtajien rakennusurakan peruskivi muurattiin juhlallisesti 11.elokuuta 1863 Viron ja Liivinmaan kuvernöörin paroni von Lievenin toimesta. Aallonmurtajien rakennushanke tiesi hyvää ansiomahdollisuutta paikallisille asukkaille, jotka kuljettivat työmmaalle sunsain määrin isoja ja pieniä rakennuskiviä. Vuodeksi 1863-1864 olivat molemmat aallonmurtajat – joiden pituus on 2150 m ja etäisyys toisistaan 230 m valmiina.
