It is a typical urban cache. We have hidden the box where we thought is the best, but what I really want to show you being a biologist are the places led by the two POIs. It could have been a normal virtual cache, but the ultimate challenge in Budapest is to hide a fairly big box. It is really true because it is the fourth reincarnation of the cache. You can find a little white box on the coordinate in the Orczy Park.
As it had been stolen four times from three different caches, please be careful when you put back the box so it must be the at the top position and the brick below it.
The park offers various facilities of relaxing. It is worth to discover what is hidden behind the human sized concrete walls
The founder of the park, Baron László Orczy did a pioneer work when he planted the first trees on this sanded territory in 1760. The park was designed by Petri Berhard The huge garden offered glass houses,
fountains, flowerbeds, a pineapple house, and a view to the Buda mountains from the kiosk. The decadance began soon and unfortunately it lasts even today. In 1830 the construction of the military academy harassed the park, and in 1872 when the building was finished the public was banned. Only after the World War II, when the partitioning of the academy land begun, could the park reopen again but on a much smaller territory than before. The two ’institutions’ we recommend offers an excellent Sunday morning program for families with little children, one for a sunny, the other one for a rainy day.
For the sunny day I recommend a Botanical garden (coordinates: N 47° 29,039' E 19° 05,130') nearby which was established in Buda in 1777, the in 1784 it moved to Pest. In the early 1800’s moved again now to the Trefort Garden, but its plants were decimated by the huge flood 1838 and itt was almost totally distructed during the War of Independence. In its present place the planting begun around 1850, the glass-houses and the rock-gardens were built around 1865. By the turn of the century the represented species were more than11,000. Due to the devastation of the World Wars, especially W W II. the park were totally destroyed.
Despite the little financial means the present adminstration forced up the numberof species to about 6,000. Many of them can be found only here within the boundaries of Hungary. A Novelty which arrived lately is a ’dino pine’.
On a rainy day you can visit the the other locality (coordinates: N 47° 28,970' E 19° 05,113') the Hungarian Natural History Museum. The collection presented here is my children’s favourite, especially the room called ’Természetbúvár terem’ (means ’Natural research room’) where each visitor may touch the exhibited objects.
