Easy walk along sometimes uneven footpath.
A series of 8 caches around Yapton plus bonus cache.
Yapton is a village which is situated in the centre of a triangle formed by Arundel, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis. It has a rich history (mainly based on legend) of the smuggling which took place along the south coast. There is allegedly still a tunnel within the confines of the oldest part of the village which was used by smugglers as an escape route when pursued by the excise men. Yapton church was built in 1086 and is one of the oldest surviving churches in Sussex still in use.
The caches in this collection are placed around the perimeter of the village and can form a circular walk which can be achieved using public footpaths only deviating onto the pavements of the village for short stretches where necessary. They can be started at any point of the circle and clues are placed in each cache to for form the co-ordinates of the final bonus cache. We estimate that the walking time to complete the route should take about 4 to 5 hours. One of the caches however will require doubling back a short way.
The parking co-ordinates are in the centre of the village and can be used for any of the starting points.
There are quite a few places in Yapton where food can be bought from the selection of pubs to the local fish and chip shop.
Caches in this collection are:
Onwards Christian Soldiers, Down South, Shaken Not Stirred, Bridge Over the River Rife, Bridge Over the River Rife - AWOL, Scholar’s Way, Tree Fellers, Portsmouth to Arundel Canal?, Yapton bonus cache
