Suomen ainoa Kuruteatteri on ikään kuin varkain puolen kymmenen vuoden aikana noussut Pelkosenniemen Pyhätunturin Aittakurun harmaaseen rakkaan. Nyt Kuruteatteri on Pyhän suurimpien kesätapahtumien perinteinen tapahtumapaikka! During the last half of the last decade the one and only Amhitheatre has risen into the grey rock valley of Aittakuru in Pyhätunturi of Pelkosenniemi.
Teatteri on noussut kuruun pala palalta ja tällä hetkellä teatteri koostuu kolmesta esiintymislavasta, soittajakatoksesta ja n.400 hengen katsomosta. Tarkoituksena on kehittää luonnon olosuhteet huomioon ottaen toiminta ympärivuotiseksi. Ensimmäinen Noitarumpuesitys järjestettiin 1991 kansallispuistossa, mutta seuraava jo Pyhätunturin Aittakurussa. Näyttämön pääroolissa on aina luonto, jonka aitoja elämyksiä ei haluta nykypäivän teatteritekniikalla pilata. Massiivisessa akustiikassa ääni, pienikin risaus kuuluu kirkkaana ylös katsomoon, aina harjulle saakka. Juuri uskomaton akustiikka tekee Kuruteatterin konserteista kuten Pyhä Unpluggedista todellisia elämyksiä. Kurun pohjalla hohkaavat rakennelmat ilmentävät luonnon omaa, joka näytöksessä erilaista, äänen, valon, ja varjon näyttämökuvaa. Ylhäällä katsomossa, luontoäidin kainalossa ihminen löytää rauhan ja yhteyden johonkin itseään suurempaan. Aittakurun jylhissä maisemissa ei olla kaukana kulkijan oman sielunmaiseman poluilta. Nature in main role. Nature is always in the main role in Amphitheatre. We do not wish to ruin the genuine experiences Nature has to offer there by using modern theatre tecniques. In the massive acoustics even a tiny crack reaches the stand of audience in the ridge bright and clear. The buildings at the bottom of Aittakuru feature nature´s own scenery of light and shadow. Up in the stand, in the armpit of mother nature man finds peace and a connection to something greater than himself. In the rough landscape of Aittakuru the traveller is not far away from his own soul scenery. The first Noitarumpu Event (noitarumpu = the drum played by shamans) took place in 1991 in the National Park of Pyhätunturi, but the very next took place in Aittakuru. Amphitheatre was build up in 1992 with help of a work camp for unemployed young people.
