Geocache Description:

Welcome to Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly point of mainland Britain. Many people think Lands End in Cornwall is as west as it gets, but that's just England. For Britain as a whole, this peninsula reaches further west. It seemed an obvious place for a cache, and I was surprised there wasn't one here...

Now thanks to Davie, the lighthouse keeper, it's got one! The cache is hidden close to Stephenson's remarkable Egyptian-style lighthouse, but there's no need to pay to enter the location. However, it may feel daft to come so far (it's 26 miles of difficult roads from the nearest big village - and 26 back again!) and not explore the lighthouse and exhibitions- for which there is a charge.

When hidden, the small cache contained 'a swap' and logbook, but no pen, so please bring your own!

13th June 2013: Paid this one a visit to give it a full refresh while holding Mainland Britain's most Westerly event. All was well and I rehid it with extra care. Got to talk to the local manager, Davie, and a climb up the lighthouse as well; great fun and well-worth doing. Thanks again to everyone who came along to the meet, and everyone who's made the effort to come all the way out here to find this remote, 'extreme' cache. SP

20th June 2017: While this got a visit from me in July 2015, I had to skip this detour this year as I was already spending £550ish in petrol on my Scottish pilgrimage and couldn't spare the time. Anyway, today is this cache's 10th birthday!

12th July 2017: This cache now has a sister - Neist Point, Way Out West - on Skye, which was set 10 years later, on June 17th 2017, at what could be regarded as Great Britain's most westerly point. Since Skye got its fixed link - the bridge - some no longer regard it as an island and have argued that Neist Point is now Great Britain's most westerly point...
