Geocache Description:

With this cache, I would like to invite you to an exciting place with a very strange atmosphere. This is Béndekpuszta, what was once a village, but the inhabitants left it in 1970. Now only two ruined churches and some ruined houses can be found here. In 2011, the church had been partially renovated and the whole place lost a bit of strangeness... The old cache (which was really exciting to find) was in the church, but I had to remove it and hide a new one elsewhere.

You can reach Béndekpuszta from the town called Lengyeltóti. From Lengyeltóti, you can go to the village called Hács. In Hács, go to the coordinates N 46° 38.781' E 17° 41.287'. There turn left, and go up the hill. You can leave your car at the coordinates N 46° 38.720' E 17° 42.282'. But from here you can only go on foot. Here starts a tourist path (signed with green), go on it to north! Sometimes the green signs are painted very rarely unfortunately. If you reach a plough-land first time, you must go forward to north, until you reach a path which leads north-east. From there you can easily find Béndekpuszta with your GPS. The accumulated distance from the parking place to Béndekpuszta is about 2500 metres.

History of Béndekpuszta

The two villages, Hács and Béndekpuszta have similar histories, with the only difference that Béndekpuszta has fallen into ruin in the 20th century, but Hács is a living village nowadays too. The first documents mention Hács and Béndekpuszta in the first half of the 14th century. The first church of Béndekpuszta was built in these times, in gothic style. The Turks attacked the Hungarian Kingdom in the 16th century. When they came here, the people who lived here, all hid in the church. But the Turks set fire to it and everybody died...
The gothic ruins can be found behind the ruins of the bigger and newer church, which was built in 1857. In these times the family Kacskovics was the owner of the village. There is an old cemetery near the church, where you can see the graves of some people from the famous Kacskovics family.
