Cache is a large ammo box. Located in The White Mountain National Forest, N. Chatham, NH. at the Cold River, Basin Pond Recreation area.
To reach the cache take RT. 113N from Fryeburg ME. or RT. 113S from Gilead ME. The Gilead ME. access is closed during the winter. ( snowmobile trail ) At the Basin Pond picnic area is a large parking area. There are picnic tables and charcoal grills, so bring the burgers and hot dogs. The pond is stocked with trout from the NH Fish and Game. This is a designated Trout Pond and a valid NH Fishing license is required. Children under the age of 16 do not require a license
. The Evan's Notch Road (Rt. 113)was built by The Civilian Conservation Corps back in 1933-1936. It took three years to build. The dam was built as part of the flood control project in the 60's.
The view of the pond against the background of Meader Mtn., Ragged Jacket Mtn. and The Royce Mtns. is spectacular. Take a trip here in the Fall to see the Autumn colors reflect off the pond on a calm day. Keep an eye out for Moose.
The cache is located at the northern end of the Dam Berm, in the woods.
