FORTE de S. JOÃO das MAIAS
É uma
construção do século XVII, iniciada em 1644
e concluída em 1653, que
tinha por objectivo
reforçar a defesa da
barra do Tejo num momento
crucial: a Restauração
da Independência.
Além das instalações propriamente militares,
possui uma
pequena capela com azulejos do
século XVIII.
Em
1976, foi
entregue aos Serviços
Sociais das Forças Armadas, para
colónia de férias.
Pode ser visitado no âmbito dos
circuitos turísticos da
Câmara Municipal de Oeiras, uma
vez por mês,
ao domingo.
PRAIA
das FONTAINHAS:
O Areal é
pequeno “micro”, quase inexistente com a
maré-alta, sendo uma
praia essencialmente rochosa.
É frequentada
por poucos
banhistas, mesmo no Verão.
A CACHE:
Não é necessário qualquer
tipo de equipamento especial para efectuar a busca desta
cache.
A melhor altura para
procurar esta cache é de manhã bem cedo.
Evite circular no “bosque”
ao lado...
Aprecie a vista a partir
do local da cache.
Divirta-se e
boa cachada.
NOTA:
Para estacionar os
cachemóveis nos waypoints recomendados, terão de circular na
Avenida Marginal no sentido de Cascais para Lisboa.

SAINT JOHN das MAIAS
FORT
It's a 17th century building, initiated in 1644
and finished in 1653, to strengthen the defenses at the entrance of
the Tagus river, at a crucial moment: the Restoration of the
Independence from Spain, in 1640.
Apart from the military facilities, the fort features a small
chapel with decorated tiles from the 18th century.
In 1976, the fort was given to the Social Services of the Armed
Forces, to be transformed in a vacation colony.
It can be visited in one of the tourist circuits of the
Oeiras City Council, once a
month, on a Sunday.
FONTAINHAS
BEACH
:
The sandy area is small “micro”, barely
nonexistent with the high tide, being an essentially rocky
beach.
It's frequented by few bathers, even in the summer.
THE CACHE:
It isn't necessary any kind of special
equipment to search this cache.
The best time to search this geocache it’s early in the morning.
Avoid walking in the wood
nearby...
Enjoy the sight from the place of the cache.

NOTE:
To park the cachemobiles at the recommended waypoints, you’ll
have to circulate in the Marginal Avenue from Cascais to Lisbon.
