Geocache Description:

Halifax is a fascinating place. Many firsts can be attributed to Halifax. There is a lot of history here.

Those of us who have lived here forever, tend to take it for granted. The "Only In Halifax" series of caches is intended to spark the memory of the older locals and enlighten more recently arrived Haligonians and visitors. I hope you enjoy the hunting as much as I have enjoyed the hiding.

When I was a young lad, my parents would take me here to see what is no longer here. If you are standing at the cache coordinates and look up the hill in the direction of the masts, the nice grassy lawn was not there. Something was standing here. This was the second of three locations for this structure. This structure was erected in it's first location in 1924 and was moved here in 1954. In 1967, a new structure was erected in it's present and permanent location. The structure that was here was appropriately slipped into Bedford Basin.

To claim a find for this cache, go to the posted coordinates, find and sign the log book. On the inside of the back cover is a password. Please do not share the password. Cachers have to sign the log book anyway. Look towards the masts and use your imagination to visualize what was once there. Use this password to unlock the PDF file linked below. This file contains every thing you will need to answer the following questions. Please take time to read the whole file. It contains some very interesting history.

What was the structure?

Where is the replacement structure?

Email me the answers to my questions. You do NOT need to wait for confirmation to log on-line.

Your log will be removed if I do not get an email with the answers before you log on-line.

This is a high muggle traffic area. Ninja techniques should be utilized. This is more for my amusement rather than being totally necessary. I list parking in the attributes, but parking in downtown Halifax is always a crap shoot and can be expensive. Public Transit, walking or cycling are the best ways to attain this cache.

Please return the cache container to the exact location you found it. ensure that the container is completely closed. The paper is water proof, but the cover is not.

There are 2 hints. The first is about the structure. The second will possibly reveal the password.

As always, no pictures of the structure and no answers in the logs. Sorry, trading items or trackables will not fit into the container.

BRING YOUR OWN WRITING IMPLEMENT !!!
Pencil or ball point pen work best on the
waterproof paper.

Please observe the geocacher's golden rule:
"Hide caches that you would enjoy finding. Seek caches that sound appealing".

WARNING: Side effects of looking for this cache could lead to a healthy demeanor, a keening of the eye, a sharpening of the wit and to lighten the burdens you carry around with you.
