Mindesten i Tovstrup
Vi synes, det er pudsigt, at vi i Danmark har så mange fine
mindesten – uden at nogen egentlig ved, hvorfor de står der, og
hvem den er sat for! Stenene er et besøg værd for måske på den måde
at lære mere om dette lands fortid.
Tæt ved bygrænsen til Tovstrup står der en mindesten for Niels
Jensen (1845-1916). Stenen er indhegnet af træer og buske, og der
er lagt ral på jorden og opstillet en bænk, således at man kan side
og mindes, mens man nyder udsigten. Vi kører tit forbi denne sten,
og det har undret os, hvilken mand Niels Jensen var, siden sådan et
fint sted blev opstillet og efterfølgende holdt ved lige.
Oplysninger om Niels Jensen er meget svære at finde. Vi har søgt
længe på nettet uden at finde andet end, at han var venstremand og
folketingspolitiker. I tiden som politiker var han en af
hovedpersonerne i beslutningen om at opføre en jernbane mellem
Århus og Hammel – en jernbane, der for længst er afskaffet, og
sporene er pillet op

ville få stillet sådan et fint sted til minde om dem og lade det
blive holdt, selv når alle for længst har glemt dem …..

Monument in Tovstrup
We think it is peculiar that we have so many nice monuments in
Denmark – without anyone actually knowing why they are there or for
whom they have been raised! The monuments are worth a visit – maybe
to learn more about the history of this country.
Close to the city boundary in Tovstrup, a monument for Niels Jensen
(1845-1916) is located. The monument is enclosed by trees and
bushes, pebble gravel has been laid on the ground and a bench is
placed so that you can recollect while enjoying the view. We often
pass by this monument and we have wondered who Niels Jensen was
since such a nice place has been arranged and maintained for him.
It is not easy to find information about Niels Jensen. We have
searched the internet for a long time without finding anything but
the information that he was a member of the Danish Parliament for
Venstre. In his time as a politician, he was one of the major
players in the resolution to build a railway between Aarhus and
Hammel – a railway which was abolished and dismantled a long time
ago
