Geocache Description:

Fantastic views over the Wye Valley from a lovely old church. Bench provided.

Many years ago millstones where made in Penallt. Once completed, they were rolled down the hill and on to barges on the River Wye, where they would be transported to Bristol.

Old Church, Penallt dates back to pre-saxon times. It is a modest church, but claims exceptional views over the Wye Valley.

The church can be approached from many starting points. The best and most rewarding is from Redbrook, England and can be done as a detour from The Two Bridges. Be sure to take a container for blackberries in the autumn. There are some lovely little waterfalls, piggies and great views along this route.

It is possible to drive right up to the church, but what would be the point in that? Though it does make for a wheelchair friendly cache.

If you want a lovely flat walk I would recommend parking near The Bush Inn, in Penallt. The lanes are very quiet and the countryside is unspoilt, idyllic and teaming with wildlife.

As an extra challenge you could try to spot a Penallt millstone on your walk and post a photo.
