This cache is a Chinese food large plastic container. There is only small items in there. Bring something small.
There are several way into this trail area. But DO NOT bring a bike. The rangers will give you a ticket. The cache is hidden, but it is touching the ground so look around. There are several trails that leads there so look out for people walking by.
This cache is located off the John Muir Nature trail, maps are avalible at the Van Cortlandt Nature center locate on the south end of the parade ground. N 40 53.476 w073 53.628
Maps are availble outside if the center is closed. make sure to grab a maps of Van Cortlandt booklet also. These are all free.
The John Muir trail was conceived in 1997 to honnor one of America's great original conservationist to parkland. The American-Scottish Foundation funded the project, and the Van Cortlandt & Pelham Bay Parks maintains the trail. Trail works are done mostly by local youth employed through summer programs with the friends Van Cortlandt and Urban Park rangers'Parks Conservation Corps. For more info please make sure you pick up a "John Muir Nature Trail" booklet at the Van Cortlandt Nature Center. And If you see a group of youth on the trail please give them a Thanx. They have made a big different over the last few years. There are still alot of work to help clean up the trails, so if you can help bring a bag and pick up what you can.
