In het oosten van Nederland tussen Holten en Hellendoorn ligt het
natuurgebied Sallandse Heuvelrug
(Nationaal Park sinds oktober 2004). Het gebied omvat ongeveer 35
vierkante kilometer en toont on-Nederlandse vergezichten over grote
golvende heidevelden en uitgestrekte bossen.
Het landschap is in een ver verleden gevormd door twee ijstijden.
Tijdens de eerste, zo'n 150.000 jaar geleden, bedekte een ijskap
van honderd tot vierhonderd meter dik de noordelijke helft van ons
land, waarbij rotsen helemaal vanuit Scandinavië meegevoerd werden
en onderweg geleidelijk gladgeschuurd of verpulverd.
Bij het warmer worden van het klimaat trok de ijskap zich terug. Er
bleef een stuwwal achter van stenen, zand en lagen keileem.
Smeltwater zocht een weg omlaag en spoelde de stuwwal op sommige
plekken geheel of gedeeltelijk weg en vormde de laagten. In de
laatste ijstijd kwam de ijskap niet meer zo ver maar werd een dikke
laag fijn zand afgezet.
Tegenwoordig is naast het natuurschoon de aanwezigheid van korhoenders in het
park uniek doordat dit de laatste plaats in Nederland is waar een
levensvatbare populatie van deze dieren voorkomt.
Let op:
Parkeren is alleen mogelijk bij het bezoekerscentrum op N52°
21.960’; - E 006° 26.570’; en de totale wandeling is 3
tot 4 kilometer. Gebruik alleen de bestaande wandelpaden.
Deze cache kan door gehandicapten uitgevoerd
worden, vlakbij de uitzichtpunten is ook een speciale parkeerplaats
beschikbaar.
Opdrachten:
1. Ga naar N52° 21.339’; - E 006° 26.002’;, dit is een
uitzichtpunt richting het westen. Bij mooi weer is zelfs Zwolle op
29 km afstand zichtbaar. Maak een foto waarop jij met GPS en de
afstandentafel in beeld zijn.
Noteer de afstand naar Raalte (Afstand 1).
Op het infobord wordt uitleg gegeven over het ontstaan van de
heuvelrug. Noteer het woord dat mist in deze zin: Zo’n
150.000 jaar geleden kwam op deze plaats een enorme ?? tot
stilstand (Woord 1).
2. Ga voor nog zo’n prachtig uitzicht naar het volgende
coördinaat N52° 21.177’; - E 006° 26.002’; , ongeveer
300 meter verderop aan de andere zijde van de weg, dit is het
uitzichtpunt richting het oosten. Noteer de afstand naar Almelo
(Afstand 2).
3. Bij het bezoekerscentrum van het park op N52° 21.944’; - E
006° 26.606’;, vindt u een profielkuil. Hoe worden de
verschillende grondlagen die je ziet genoemd (Woord 2)?
Update 10-02-2012: de profielkuil is niet meer, het benodigde woord
is 'horizonten'.
Stuur vóór het loggen een mail met de 2 afstanden
en de 2 antwoorden op de geologische vragen naar het volgende

Als de antwoorden goed zijn ontvang je namelijk automatisch een

log op deze cachepagina schrijven. Let op: Niet gaan gokken want
wij zien elke poging voorbijkomen ;-))
Plaats daarom ook de gemaakte foto bij je log anders is de log
alsnog ongeldig en wordt deze verwijderd.

In the eastern part of the Netherlands, between Hellendoorn and
Holten (east of Deventer) lies the nature area
Sallandse Heuvelrug (a National Park since October 2004). The
area covers approximately 35 square kilometres and shows views on
large heather fields and stretching woods you would not expect to
see in the Netherlands.
The landscape was formed long ago by two ice ages. During the
first, about 150,000 years ago, the northern half of the
Netherlands was completely covered by a more than 100 metre thick
layer of ice, resulting in the formation of so-called lateral
moraines along the edge of the ice cap. After the ice cap
retreated, the lateral moraines remained, including large stones
that were carried down from Scandinavia with the growth of the ice
cap. The melting water made its way to lower-lying areas, washing
away part of the lateral moraine in some areas, forming hollows and
gorges. During the last ice age, the ice did not extend as far as
the ridge, but thick layers of sand ended up being deposited on the
ridge.
Apart from the nature beauty in these days, extraordinary is the
presence of black grouse in the
park being the last place in the Netherlands where a viable
population of these animals exists.
Note:
Parking is only possible at N 52° 21.960’; - E 006°
26.570’; and you will have to walk 3 to 4 kilometres. Always
use the available paths.
This cache can be visited by disabled persons as
there is also a special parking area available near the scenic view
spots.
Tasks:
1. Go to N52° 21.339’; - E 006° 26.002’;, where you
have a scenic view towards the west, you might be able to see the
town of Zwolle at 29 km. distance if the weather allows you to.
Make a picture of yourself, your GPS and the distance table. Write
down the distance to Raalte.
On the information panel some explanation is given how the
Heuvelrug has been formed. Write down the word that is missing in
the following sentence:

2. For another superb view, go to the next coordinate N52°
21.177’; - E 006° 26.002’; , at about 300 metres at the
other side of the road, here you have a scenic view toward the
east. Write down the distance to Almelo.
3. Go to the visitors centre next to the parking area at N52°
21.944’; - E 006° 26.606’, where you will find a
so-called "profielkuil";. What name is used to describe the layers
in the earth?
Update 10-02-2012: the 'profielkuil' has been dismantled, the
needed word is 'horizonten'.
