Lagunestien -
Skælskørbanen
Lidt uden for
Skælskør centrum, ikke langt fra den hyggelige havn, finder man på
sin vej ad Lagunestien, resterne af det der engang var en meget
vigtig del af Skælskør og omegns infrastruktur, nemlig
Skælskørbanen. Indvielsen af banen fandt sted den 15. maj 1892, og
løb mellem Skælskør og Slagelse, samt mellem Skælskør og Næstved,
begge baner med Dalmose som "centrum".
Den øgede godstrafik med lastbiler, samt den almindelige afmatning
i den kollektive trafik, medvirkede til at Skælskørbanen fik en
relativ kort levetid. Skælskør - Slagelse banen indstillede
persontrafikken i 1950, men blev opretholdt som godsbane indtil
1975. Skælskør - Næstved banen indstillede persontrafikken den 22.
maj 1971, og fortsatte med godstrafikken indtil
1975.
I et forsøg på at
bevare den gamle jernbane og de traditioner der følger med, blev
der i 1976 stiftet en veterantogklub "Foreningen Skælskørbanen",
der siden har lagt mange frivillige ressourcer i at bevare de gamle
installationer og materiel.
Foreningen kørte periodevis med veterantog imellem Skælskør,
Dalmose og Næstved, hvilket i dag er begrænset til kørsel imellem
Skælskør og Tjæreby, da vedligeholdelse af materiel og skinner er
en voldsom omkostning for en lille forening.
Området ved den gamle station og ranger området trænger til en pose
penge og en kærlig hånd, men man ser dog tydeligt at der fortsat er
en aktiv veteranbaneklub der med frivillige hænder, forsøger at
holde trit med forfald og hærværk.
Vandreruterne
"Lagunestien" og "Sjællandsleden" passerer lige forbi den gamle
Skælskørbane.

Skælskør railway
Close to the
centre of Skælskør, not far from the cosy little harbour, the
hiking trail Lagunestien passes by the remains of the ones very
important part of the infrastructure of Skælskør and the suburban
municipalities, namely The Skælskør Railway.
The grand opening of the railway took place May 15th 1892, and
connected Skælskør and Slagelse as well as Skælskør and Næstved,
both passing through Dalmose.
The increasing goods traffic using trucks, as well as the common
decline in the public transportation was one of the reasons that
The Skælskør Railway had a very short time in service.
In 1950 the Skælskør-Slagelse railway discontinued the passenger
traffic, but continued to service the goods traffic until 1975.
May 22nd 1971 The Railway Skælskør - Næstved discontinued the
passenger traffic, and continued to service the goods traffic until
1975.
In an attempt to
preserve the old railway and all the traditions, a society of
veteran railway enthusiasts founded "Foreningen Skælskørbanen",
with the one purpose to preserve the old installations and
equipment, just using the voluntary resources available.
From time to time, primarily during the summer time the club uses
the old trains and wagons to service the tourist between Skælskør,
Dalmose and Næstved. Today this service is limited to run between
Skælskør and Tjæreby, due to the huge expenses it takes to maintain
the trains, wagons and rails, too much for a small club to
handle.
The area around the old railway station needs a huge bag of money
and a lot of voluntary work in order to overcome the ongoing decay
and vandalism.
The hiking trails
"Lagunestien" and "Sjællandsleden" passes right by Skælskørbanen.
