Veresegyház is a town at 30 kilometers from Budapest, in a valley of the Gödölloi-hills. It is probably named after it's church built of unplastered red bricks. Based on the geological researches, the village called Ivacs was inhabited since the 10th century, it is now part of the town.

In the 20th century Veresegyház developed quite quickly, it became a major village on the 1st of April in 1970 and became a town on the 1st of July in 1999. It has an official homepage at www.veresegyhaz.hu, but interesting pictures can be seen on this page as well: veresegyhaz.uw.hu.

There three nice lakes in the city: az Öreg-tó (Old Lake), the Ivacsi-tó (Ivacsi Lake) and the Pamut-tó (Pamut Lake). These are partially pleasure resorts, partially fishing locations offering perfect relaxation opportunities to the tourists visiting these places. These three lakes were one, a warrant from 1430 names it Lábas Lake. Its today shape has been built during the reconstructions of the city. The specialities of these lakes are the swimming swamp and the rare water lily, those are symbols also in the bearings of the city.

For the last 10 years, a thermal bath also operates near the beach, its 65 °C water helps rheumatic and locomotor diseases. It's worth to try it even during the winter after some skating! :-)

Since 1988 there is a bear asylum near the city, 33 bears and 16 wolves are settled here. For more information www.medveotthon.hu. Please also refer to the GCpd1 geocache on the Hungarian page.

You can get to Veresegyház by a long-distance bus or by train. I recommend to take the Ivacs train station as a starting point (see waypoint) where you can also leave your car. If you kick-off from here, you'll find the lakes for sure. Take a light walk or ride your bike on the unpaved road near the lake to get to it.
