Geocache Description:

The cache is located at the eastern end of the Helena Pipehead Walk.  It is just of the track in a pile of rocks.  The track is fairly easy walking, about 4.33 km in length.  The cache is about 1.5 km from the suggested car park.  The walk provides great views of the Helena Pipehead Dam.

The cache is a 2 litre blue lidded plastic container. Shouldn't be too hard to find.  The purpose of this cache hide is to provide further incentive for you to Take 30 and maybe extend your hunting in the area into a complete walk of the Helena Pipehead Walk.  The walk is described as a 3 km walk but my GPSr reported 4.3 km walk circuit. It is an enjoyable walk with views of the dam followed by enjoying jarrah forest walking. You can get track notes and a map of the walk at the link above.

The walk is described at the Swan Valley and Perth Hills Trails website as:

Walk passes lower Helena Pipehead Dam. Although crest gates were added to Mundaring Weir in 1963, increasing storage to nearly 76,500 million litres, even greater storage was soon sought to supply increased needs of mining companies on the eastern Goldfields. Investigations for a second major storage dam on the Helena River were carried out. As a proposed first stage, designs were completed for a pipehead diversion weir and pumping station on the Helena River, downstream of Mundaring Weir and below the confluence with Piesse Brook. The work was completed in 1971. Forty percent of Mundaring Weir water comes from Lower Helena.
