[Français] Situé à une quinzaine de kilomètres au sud de Strasbourg, le plan d’eau de Plobsheim est un bassin de compensation créé
pour permettre la régulation du niveau du Rhin et de l’Ill à l’entrée de l’agglomération strasbourgeoise. Peu profond (0,5 à 4 m), ses 680 ha en font le plus
vaste plan d’eau d’Alsace.
La partie nord, située sur les communes de Plobsheim et d’Eschau et la côte ouest sont d’allure très artificielle, en raison des berges bétonnées et de la présence
d’une base de voile avec des activités nautiques.
La partie sud en revanche, située entre la base du « Rhinland » et l’agglomération de Krafft, présente un aspect plus sauvage, avec des berges naturelles ; à
l’est, elle jouxte la réserve naturelle de la forêt d’Erstein. La navigation de plaisance est interdite toute l’année dans cette partie, par Arrêté Préfectoral de
Protection de Biotope (20/12/1990). Outre les pêcheurs et les promeneurs, le plan d’eau fait également le bonheur des oiseaux et…
des ornithologues ! En effet, dès sa mise en eau en 1970, cette vaste étendue s’est révélée très attractive pour les oiseaux d’eau, pour qui elle
est rapidement devenue un site d’hivernage majeur dans le fossé rhénan, avec en moyenne 8000 canards et autres oiseaux d’eau (grands cormorans, cygnes
tuberculés, grèbes huppés et castagneux, foulques …) qui y passent la mauvaise saison. Le site retient également de nombreux oiseaux pendant la période de
nidification ainsi qu’en estivage, et constitue une halte privilégiée lors des passages migratoires de printemps et d’automne.
[English] Located at about fifteen kilometers in the south of Strasbourg, the water area of Plobsheim is a compensating reservoir created for allow the
regulation of the level of Rhine river and Ill river at entry of Strasbourg. Not very deep (from 0.5 to 4m), with 680 ha, it is the largest water area from Alsace.
The northern part, located on the communes of Plobsheim and Eschau and the West coast are of very artificial pace, because of the
concreted banks and the presence of a base of sailing with nautical activities.
The southern part, located between the base of the “Rhinland” and the agglomeration of Krafft, presents a more wild aspect, with natural banks; in the east,
it is next to the natural reserve of the forest of Erstein. The pleasure sailing is prohibited all the year in this part, by Prefectoral Arrêté of
Protection of Biotope (20/12/1990). In addition to the fishermen and the walkers, the water level also makes the happiness of the birds and… ornithologists! Since 1970,
this vast wide appeared very pleasant for the water birds, for which it quickly became a site of major wintering in the Rhenish ditch, with on average 8000
ducks and other birds of water who spend the bad season there. The site also retains many birds for the period of nesting like in estivage, and constitutes a
halt privileged at the time of the migratory passages of spring and autumn.
