The first in a very short series relating to legendary musicians
and their connections to the area.
Clearwell Castle is a Gothic house built in the
early 18th century. After being restored in the 1960's the dungeons
were used throughout the 70's by many legendary rock bands such as
Deep Purple,
Black Sabbath,
Bad Company,
Van der Graaf Generator and
Led Zeppelin to rehearse
albums, tours and to record.
Locals in the Wyndham Arms (named
after Thomas Wyndham, the original owner of Clearwell Castle)
recall sharing a chat over a drink with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page
in the pub.
The venue was also used for PR events and promo shoots for many
other bands.
The castle is now used as a premier wedding venue and is, of
course, haunted.
Clearwell
Caves are very nearby.
Appropriate song titles slipped into log entries are actively
encouraged.
The cache has been moved from it's original location due to a new
fence restricting access.
The cache is accessible without removing any stones from the
wall.
There is a Bench Mark on the church for anyone who is interested in
that sort of thing.
P.S. There are no bullocks - and now no cows either.
