Within the UK, Magnesium limestone is only found in the North East
of England. Marden Quarry is virtually the only exposure of
magnesium limestone north of the river Tyne and is of interest as a
northern outlier of this series. The nature reserve holds an
interesting senescent elder scrub, limestone grassland flora and a
valuable waterfowl pond.
This earthcache has been developed with the agreement of North
Tyneside Council.
To claim this earthcache you must:
1. submit an original photograph of yourself and/or your GPS
overlooking the waterfowl pond;
2. email me with the answer to the following question: What is the
main difference between the current (physical) waterfowl pond and
the 19th century map of the quarry on one of the two large signs in
the car park?
Please do not put your answer in your log entry. Any logs that
contain the answers will be deleted so that following geocachers
can complete the required tasks unaided. Remember to look at
www.earthcache.org where you can see if you
will qualify for either a bronze, silver, or gold pin badge
depending on how many earthcaches you have visited and/or
developed.
Webpage update on 18.05.2007
Unfortunately, not everyone is playing the game fairly. The
webpage has been updated today to remove the option of answering a
second question instead of taking a photo. This is because 2
cachers have not submitted a photo to prove their visit and
have not answered the optional question about who opened the nature
reserve instead of taking a photograph. Despite email reminders
they have still not proved that they have visited Marden Quarry
Earthcache.
So, from today, if there is no photo attached to your cache log
- then your log will be deleted without any email reminders.
