Historie mesta saha hluboko do stredoveku.
V r. 1813 v Jicinskem zamku probehlo jednani o spojenectvi Rakouska, Pruska a Ruska proti cisari Napoleonovi.
Mista krvavych boju pripominaji desitky pomniku a hrobu.
V 19. a 20. stoleti se do Jicina soustredil vysoky pocet skol. Jicin byl take sidlem dvou vojenskych posadek, ceskoslovenske a sovetske (1968-1991).

2.) Na N 50°26.200, E 015°21.190 stojite pred Valdickou branou a pred kostelem sv. Jakuba Vetsiho.
Poradne si prohlednete Valdickou branu a spocitejte VSECHNA velka, nahore zaoblena okna (viz obrazek Jicin_1). To je sude cislo D.

Zidovska obec ji ziskala v roce 2001 a nyni probiha jeji renovace.

Jicin is a beautiful quiet town situated in a picturesque country at the edge od the Czech Paradise.
The town is firstly recorded in the document of the queen Guta, the wife of the king Vaclav II, from 129A as the property of the king. From 1337 nobility houses were the holders of Jicin. The gratest boom of Jicin took place in the first half of 17th century under the rule of Albrecht Eusebius of Wallenstein, the imperial generalissimo, a brilliant warrior and skilful politician. In 1813 the Jicin palace was the place of the negotiation of the alliance of Austria, Prussia and Russia against Napoleon.
During the Prussian-Austrian war in 1866 the Austrian-Saxon army was conquered by Prussians in a fierce battle close to Jicin. Dozens of memorials and graves are spread round the town.
In 19th and 20th centuries there were a high number of schools in Jicin. Czechoslovak and Soviet (1968-1991) garrisons resided there.

The Route
1.) The tour begins at N 50°26.209, E 015°21.279, at the junction of Husova Avenue, Zizkovo Square and the road from Valdice. There is a beutiful view of the tower gate from there. The most significant building here is Pariz Hotel (formerly named Astra, Stalingrad, Hamburk).
C is the number of street lamppsts in front of the hotel.

2.) At N 50°26.200, E 015°21.190 you are standing in front of Valdicka tower gate and St. James’ church.
Valdicka gate is a late-gothic 3 storey tower from 1568-70. It replaced one of the 3 original gates. Its height is B2 metres. St. James’ church began to be built cca in 1627 and was intended as a bishop cathedral (Wallenstein planned to establish a episcopacy here).
Carefully look at the tower gate and count ALL the large windows rounded at the top side (see picture Jicin_1). This is number D (even).

3.) At N 50°26.276, E 015°21.169 there is a synagogue. Jewish community in Jicin is recorded as of 14th century. Wallenstein granted wide privileges to the Jews but they were cancelled when he had been murdered. All the Jews were deported to concetration camps in 1943 and only 3 came back after the war.
The synagogue was built in 1781-1784. After a fire in 1840 it was rebuilt in empire style. After WWII it became a storehouse of herbs. The Jewish community received the synagogue back in 2001 and now it is being renovated.
E is the number of hinges of a two-leaf wooden shutter in the eastern gable wall of the synagogue.

4.) Go over to the Wallenstein Square. All around the square there are houses with arcades that Wallenstein ordered to rebuild from the original wooden ones. In the SE corner there is a palace built by Wallenstein in place of older burned one. Pay attention e.g. to the fountain (1835), empire-style fountain in shape of a small temple (1836) and Maria column (1702).
Count big (not small) relief garlands on the object a part of which you see in the picture Jicin_2. This is the number F.
Find the house with the pheasant (see picture Jicin_3). GH is the 2-digit number under the pheasant.

5.) Go to the Svobody (Freedom) Square. You cannot miss the gothic church of St. Ignatius de Loyola from the 14th century, the most ancient building in Jicin. Next to the church is the Jesuit dormitory from 1628. The Jesuits were called up to Jicin by Wallenstein in 1622. The dormitory began to be built in 1628. After the abolition of the Jesuit order in 1773 the dormitory became a garrison.
The name of the square looked like a derision in late communism era since there was a soviet garrison in the dormitory and heavy trucks and files of armed occupant soldiers every in and out day went.
I is the number of steps (odd number, don’t count the threshold) at the two-leaf door at N 50°26.1DG, E 015°20.9FB.

6.) The cache is hidden at Cidlina river at the coordinates:
N 50°26.(I-C)(I-A)(I-C-H) E 015°20.(B+I)(I-H)(H-C)
Check: the sum of all the 15 digits of the coordinates is divisible by 11.

The location is pretty muggle-free. Having hidden the cache please camouflage it carefully. Thanks.
