Geocache Description:

Micro Cache hidden near the train line through Sutton Park

In the early 1960's Dr Richard Beeching was the main author of a report in to how to stop the significant losses made by the British Railway System that had started in the 1950's with the expansion of the road network.

Beeching's report proposed a lot of cost cutting and investment to improve the situation and stop the increasing losses. Successive governments were more keen on the cost-saving elements of the report rather than the elements requiring investment and subsequently 4,000 miles of railway and 3,000 stations were closed in the decade following the report.

The rail line through Sutton Park that was built in 1879 included a number of stations, one of which was in the park. This station closed as a result of Beeching's recommendations and passenger services through the park ceased. The line is still used, but only for goods trains.

The cache is situated near the train line, near the Blackroot Pool.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT PARK RIGHT NEXT TO THE CACHE BUT USE ONE OF THE NEARBY CARPARKS. THE NEAREST IS AT BLACKRROT POOL.

I am sorry that it's a micro, it wasn't going to be, but when you find the hiding place, you will see why it had to be a micro.
