Skivebakken Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

Geocaches which have not been maintained or the owner has not responded will not be taken out of the archive

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,

Geocache Description:

Utsikt fra toppen av Skivebakken - View from top of Skivebakken

NORSK

ENGLISH
The top of Skivebakken is one of Bergen's classical viewpoints. The name refers to the olden days target shooting. In 1497 the bishop allowed the German workers to use this area for practising their target shooting, shooting on a wooden parrot which was placed on the top of a rod. This sport was practised all through Europe in those days. When king Christian the 4th visited Bergen in 1599 he joined in here in shooting "efter Skife" (on targets) using rifle, and from the 16th century the area has been called Skiven (Target)

A parrot target made of wood, about 50m high with golden feathers, is preserved (in a bad condition though, and without wings) at the Hanseatic Museum.

Skivebakken is also the steepest road in Bergen.
