The story of the castle:
The ruins of the castle towers above the rocks are rising from the
valley of Szinva Brook. This area had already been inhabited in the
Prehistoric Ages. The name Diósgyor was first mentioned in the
chronicles of Anonymous who lived and wrote in the court of King
Béla III. on the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. The castle
had been owned by the Bors Family before the Tatar Invasion, when
it was destroyed. Later a new castle was built on the same place,
which became the home of Ban Ernye. At that time it was a strong
stone building. The new castle was given to Dózsa Debreczeni, the
Prince of Transylvania as a royal donation in 1319. King Lajos the
Great took this place as well so in 1364 he joined a big estate to
the castle and later he had it developed into a magnificent Gothic
royal castle. Therefore Diósgyor became a royal residence just like
Buda, Visegrád and Zólyom. It got especially significant when King
Lajos the Great became a Polish king as well. From that time he
spent a couple of months with his court here every year. And so the
castle became the scene of important historic events such as
signing the Peace Treaty of Turin in 1381. After the death of King
Lajos Diósgyor became the endowment of the Hungarian queens. It was
their wedding present and the country residence of 6 queens between
1424. and 1526. The last queen who lived here, was Habsburg Maria,
the wife of King Lajos II. When the danger of Turkish attacks
disappeared it went to rack and ruin so the engravings made at the
end of the 19th c. could only show the ruins of the castle.

How to find the cache?
The cache is hidden south-west to the castle on the top of a
forested hill in a rocky area. Walk towards the west to the
direction of the swimming pool (Várfürdo) from the main entrance of
the castle on the street. After about 100 meters (328.08 feet) walk
you can see a pink house. Here turn left to the street called
“Rozgonyi Piroska utca”. At the end of this street you can find the
beginning of a small path on which you can continue to walk uphill.
The WGS84 coordinates of the beginning of this path are: N 48°
05.817' E 20° 41.002', Altitude: 205 meters (672.57 feet). The path
will lead you through a pinewood. After leaving the pinewood the
path leads into a gully. Here continue walking uphill to the left
in the gully which leads to the top of the hill. Here you can see a
tree marked with a white overturned T sign on the left. Here turn
right to a smaller path that will lead you to a fire place. You can
see a nice view from here to the west-end of the city and to the
Bükk mountain. Turn west and walk round bushes from the right down
on the rocks to a small path. Walk few steps to south on this path.
Next, the path does a perpendicular right and left turn. Do 3-4
steps to south again you will stay on a rock which is part of the
small path. Under this rock you will find a rock-cavity which
contains the cache! The entrance of the rock-cavity disguised with
pieces of rock.
