En el año 1899 se
construyó el Gran Hotel de l'Arrabassada. En 1911 el complejo se
amplió con una obra faraónica de gran lujo donde acudía la alta
sociedad adinerada de la época. Disponía de un casino, restaurante,
y parque de atracciones, incluyendo una montaña rusa (el Scenic
Railway) de 2 km de recorrido, 25m de desnivel y dos túneles, uno
de ellos de 57 metros de largo.
Grandes fortunas se
ganaron y se perdieron en las noches de juego del Casino. Cuenta la
leyenda que había a disposición de los clientes que lo desearan,
una pequeña estancia para suicidarse discretamente si la suerte no
les había sonreído.
Estuvo en
competencia con el parque de atracciones del Tibidabo y el Lake
Valley Park (más modesto, en el pantano de Vallvidrera).
En 1912 se prohíbe
el juego, y el complejo funciona sólo como hotel y parque de
atracciones, atrayendo un público más familiar. El juego volvió a
legalizarse, pero Primo de Rivera la prohíbe de nuevo en 1929,
condenando definitivamente el Casino. Durante la guerra se utilizó
como cuartel de carabineros. En 1940 se derrocaron la mayoria de
las edificaciones y estructuras.
1899 saw the
construction of the Gran Hotel de l'Arrabassada. In 1911, the
complex was extended with luxurious additions of pharaonic
proportions, frequented by the wealthy high society of the times.
Including a casino, restaurant and amusement park, it included a
roller coaster (with an English name, "Scenic Railway) measuring
2km in length and covering 25m of height, plus two tunnels, one of
them 57m in length.
Enormous
fortunes changed hands in the gambling nights of the Casino Legend
has it there was even a small room reserved for customers who
wished to discretely commit suicide, if luck had not been on their
side.
The
establishment competitors included the amusement parks of Tibidabo
and Lake Valley Park, the latter being more modest, located in the
dam of Vallvidriera.
1912, however is
when gambling was forbidden, and the complex opeates solely as
hotel and amusement parks, thus focusing on a family experience.
Gambling was soon became legal again, but Primo de Rivera outlawed
it again in 1929; this is the final blow for the Casino. During the
war, the Casino was used as headquarters for the carabineers. In
1940, most of the buildings and adjoining structures where
leveled.
Poco queda de lo
que fue, la naturaleza ha ganado la partida en esta ocasión. Quedan
restos de algunos de los edificios. De la montaña rusa podréis ver
los pilares que la sustentaban y los túneles en el waypoint TUNELS,
el estanque es reconocible por el suelo liso debajo de las hierbas.
Si abrís bien los ojos encontraréis restos de escalinatas,
barandillas, bancos de piedra, y... un tesoro escondido.
Estad atentos a los
geomuggles, vosotros no los vais a ver, pero ellos os
vigilan...
Not much is left
of it, and Nature ended up holding the upper hand. There are still
some remains of some of the buildings. The pillars that held up the
roler coaster are still visible, and the tunnels are in the
waypoint labeled "TUNELS". You can make out the pond by looking at
the flat, concrete floor under the grass. If you keep your eyes
peeled, you'll still see pieces of stairways, hand railings and
stone benches and. a hidden treasure.
Keep an eye on
the geomuggles, you won't see them, but they are watching
you.
PELIGRO!!: Hay diversos pozos en la zona,
seguramente de galerías de servicio o cloacas del complejo, la
mayoría cubiertos con rejas, pero al menos uno sin
tapar!
DANGER!! There are several wells in the area,
probably from service tunnels and sewers, most of them, covered
with grids. There is at least one that's not covered,
though

You can get
there by car and bycicle on the road.

accesses (you can come in one and get out the other):

(The fountain was part of the Casino's gardens) from
ACCES1.
