AV8: SR-71 Blackbird Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

minnflyer: Went to check on this one today and found the container and contents strewn about on the ground. Given that it looks like there is brush clearing going on nearby, I think I'll retire this one to the aircraft graveyard. Thanks to all who searched ...

Geocache Description:

I'm a certified flight instructor, and this cache is part of a series with an aviation theme. There are 8 caches in the series, hence the name. This cache is located in Sunkist Park in Brooklyn Park, and was approved by the BP Recreation and Parks Department.

Sunkist Park is located between 81st and 82nd Avenues N., just east of Hwy. 252. Legal parking is on the street near the park entrance at 82nd Ave. N.

You're searching for a camo'd plastic container, 4" in diameter and 10" tall. NOTE: The lid does not unscrew, it just pops on and off with a bit of effort. Original contents: $1 for the first finder, A.J. Alien TB, and a new plush froggie doll.

The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird (the pilots called it "Habu"), first flew as the A-12 Oxcart on April 25, 1962, and it remains a marvel of technology even today. Designed for the Central Intelligence Agency by the legendary Kelly Johnson at the Lockheed "Skunk Works," the Blackbird was the fastest and highest-flying aircraft throughout its career, which ended "officially" in 1989.

Flying at 80,000 feet, the Blackbird could survey 100,000 square miles of the Earth's surface in one hour. One SR-71 set a coast-to-coast record on its final flight: the crew flew across the entire United States in 64 minutes at an average of 2,124 miles per hour!!!
