Geocache Description:

A small urban multi to remind us of our informational roots, all within 1.2km of the centre of town.

Dunedin's first Free Public Library opened in 1908, and was funded by American benefactor Andrew Carnegie. Situated at 110 Moray Place, the library offered a reference service only.

Due to proximity limitations and commercial redevelopment, there's no cache there, but it's worth a visit at S45 52.464 E170 30.091

Today, we tend to forget that before the Internet, information came not from boxes with buttons and a screen, but from ink on paper, carefully catalogued and available to all.

So, here's a cache to remind us that while the cacher may still need to get information from that box with a screen, the paper style is far from outdated, and a large volume of information, entertainment, and history resides in carefully managed paper&ink storage mechanisms! So now you must return to begin your latest search.

WP1 accessible Monday to Friday: 9.30am - 8.00pm; Weekend: 11.00am - 4.00pm. Final available 24/7

Placed with kind permission at both start and final.
