Geocache Description:

Are you “AFRAID of the DARK?” You will be after this one.

This cache has to be attempted in the dark. The probability of completion during daylight hours is very unlikely. You just won’t be able to locate the strange creatures you will be looking for in the light. Difficulty and Terrain are high rated because of the darkness. If cache was possible in daylight it would be rated 1 star.


Go to the above listed coordinates. This can be done as the sun is getting close to setting. Park your vehicle on the road when your GPS shows straight out the passenger window. Make sure and waypoint your vehicle on this one, so when and if you make it to the cache unharassed by the creatures you can hurry back to the safety of your vehicle.

The goal of this adventure is to find the six creatures in order and then onto the cache.

“AFRAID of the DARK yet?

At the coordinates you will find a portal to the strange creatures. It consists of a pile of rocks with a 4’ stick standing up. The ground is also cleared back from the rocks. The natives told me that at this very location, if you are real quiet and it’s dark enough outside, you should be able to hear and sometimes feel the creatures moving below the ground.

When you arrive at this portal to the underworld, you will need to wait here until the sun has gone down quite a bit. Remember DARKER = BETTER VISIBILITY for the adventure you are about to take. It’s not to late to return to your vehicle. That is if you made a waypoint like you were advised. The creatures will let you return unharassed if you go now. If you decide to proceed its at your own risk.

Every member in your party is a potential victim to the creatures. They will reach out at you from all angles, and try tripping you. They may even scratch you all over. Be careful. The only weapon that will deter these nasty creatures is a good working flashlight, with fresh batteries. Everyone on this adventure should have their own flashlight to help keep the creatures at bay.

From the portal, start shining your flashlight in all directions about shoulder height, at a distance of 50’ – 200’. Change your positions around the portal until you spot the mean and nasty ORANGE Cyclops Monster. Proceed over to the ORANGE Cyclops Monsters eye. Use caution, there are all kinds of strange creatures out here that are going to try and trip you up. Advise your friends to use care too. These woods are scary. You can still go back to your vehicle.

At the ORANGE Cyclops eye, shine your flashlight again in all directions (360* radius). You may have to move around the eye a couple of times until you spot the BLUE Eyeball peering into your soul. It seem as though the BLUE Eye is looking right through you. Walk over to the BLUE Eye. Hopefully none of the creatures will follow you. You are now at the point of no return.

When you arrive at the BLUE Eye and still have your wits about you, start shining your flashlight as you have before. From here you should spot the Devil’s RED Hot Breath. Walk, don’t run over to the RED Hot Breath. Boy it sure is getting warmer around here. Now you want to get this RED Hot Breath away from the back of your neck, so take your flashlight and start looking around for the Evil BLUE Blob, or is it the BLUE Eye Ball following you? I think its just the Evil BLUE Blob. Approach it slowly with the greatest of care. Have your flashlight in the ready position. You may have to attack the BLUE Blob before it gets you.

Now looking all around find the RED Flame that is trying to burn you. Go over to the RED Flame. Watch your feet. Things are still trying to grab at you. From here while shining you flashlight in a 360* radius and not getting burned by the RED Flame, you should find the KEEPER of this area.

The KEEPER has a very bright WHITE Lazer pointed right at you. Duck!!! Watch out or it will cut you in half. Approach the WHITE Lazer avoiding direct contact with you. Don’t make the same mistake a previous Geocacher did by looking into the WHITE Lazers beam. He was blinded for a few minutes, just long enough to be captured and tortured.

It sure feels as though you are being watched and followed by something. It never leaves your presence, your starting to be “AFRAID of the DARK”.

After you have beaten the KEEPER, with his WHITE Lazer, you are now ready to brave uncharted ground. From the spot of the defeated KEEPER you need to proceed at 305 degrees magnetic, for 246’.

As you are now feeling pretty cocky for making it this far, through the ORANGE Cyclops, the BLUE Eyeball, around the RED Hot Breath, the BLUE Blob, a RED Flame, and extinguishing the WHITE Lazer, this is where it gets scary.

Are you “AFRAID of the DARK” yet?

When you have made it through the uncharted ground the cache should be right there. It’s LYING at the FOOT of the remains of an OLD, DEAD, GREY, 12 FOOT Monster. That is unless they got it, and are just waiting to pounce on you. They almost got us, but luckily I had a bottle of ACME ANTI-AFRAID we used before we entered the uncharted ground.
