Cone Mountain Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

GCB0B: With less than a month to go before the 12th anniversary of one of the oldest geocaches in Arizona, regretfully Cone Mountain must be archived. The State Trust land on which this cache was placed has been acquired by the City of Scottsdale and incorporated into the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, where physical geocaches are prohibited, and Preserve management has requested that the cache be archived and removed.

Thanks to everyone who has visited this component of the GCB0B geocaching legacy over the last 12 years.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located on state trust land. A usage permit is required to enter the area. The City of Scottsdale plans on including this into one of its preserves in the near future.

This cache is located on state trust land. The State Land Department has no problem with this activity, however, a Recreation Permit is required to legally access State Trust Land. These permits are easily obtained by phoning (602) 364-ASLD. This is a recording in which people can request a permit application. The permits cost $15 for an Individual Permit, and $20 for a Family Permit. The permits are good for one year from the date of issue, and allow legal access to any State Trust Land in Arizona.

This geocache is located within a prime mountain bike area. There are over 100 miles of single track trails for riding. The cache is located within a few miles of major roads and it is reachable by hiking, however, the trails are best used on a mountain bike. Park your car near the intersection of Pima and Dynamite.

The cache itself is located about 20-30 feet off the trail. It's a medium size metal can so don't take anything large to put in it. It's covered with several dead branches from a dead bush.

Please stay on the trails to get to this cache and do not go cross country. You can reach the cache by starting on the power line road until you reach a small hill (with trails to the top) SW of the cache. Then take a trail that wraps around the south and east side of the hill. This trail then twists and turns NE towards the cache. It has several sections of roller coaster type hills and is lots of fun for mountain biking. Enjoy the area but help to preserve it.
