Geocache Description:

This is a 3 stage multi cache. The 3rd log cache contains the north co-ordinates for the Land Of Lincoln Ammo Can Mystery cache. Hunt the 1, 2, 3 set and then the 4, 5, 6 set. With the co-ords from these two take a hike over to the ammo can cache.

Please read the entire description before heading out on this geoadventure. Please DO NOT attempt to access any of the caches by cutting through or across private property. The fine folks whose homes border these woods like and deserve their privacy and I would hate to see anyone ruin all our good fun.

Welcome to the Land of Lincoln, Lincoln Log caching adventure. This is a set of three caches hidden in the Cook County forest preserves south of Lake Cook road and north of Dundee road. Find Logs #1, #2 and #3 to get the north co-ords for The Land Of Lincoln Ammo Can Mystery Cache from log #3. Find Logs #4, #5 and #6 to get the west co-ords for the Land Of Lincoln Ammo Can Mystery Cache from log #6.

Caches #1 through #6 are log only micros (about the size of an ammo can (figure that one out). Remember I am a caching traditionalist. These are all woodland hides. Terrain and difficulty ratings vary depending on the circumstances of each hide. Following are a few hints/comments on each hide. There are no hints listed in the formal hint spots on the cache pages.

Please take a few extra seconds to carefully place the log sheets back into the logs. They should be easy to get out... but not is smushed or crushed!

Lincoln Log #1 – This area has no trails and sees virtually zero human traffic. There are lots of deer and deer trails through here. Swampy wet. Not for the kiddies. This cache features a custom constructed cache air suspension system to keep it off of the wet ground. When you visit feel free to enhance the system with readily available materials.

Log #2 – lovely woodland area.

Log #3 – Move the car for this one. Mark your car. Again, only deer trails here. If you do not see deer here you are not looking.

Log #4 – Best hunted as a straight shot from log #3. This area is more a swamp than a forest. The cache is likely not accessible all year. You can get to the hide. It is just a question of from what direction.

Log #5 – Easiest of the series. Approach from the south.

Log #6 – Watch for traffic. Approach from the north.

Land of Lincoln Ammo Can Mystery cache – Classic forest hide.

There are 2 other geocaches out here. One sits perfectly between log#3 and Log #4. The other is between Log #4 and #5. Figure out which ones they are and get them too while you are here.

As is always my attitude… I welcome comments and suggestions for improving my caches. If you pull better co-ords, please share them with me so I can update the listings. If you have a better place to park lets hear about it. Do not hesitate to share your ideas.
