Geocache Description:

This cache is located near the lighthouse at Obrestad. This place gives you a panoramic view over the landscape of Jæren.

The lighthouse was finished in 1873, and is a solide rock construction. Until 1940, the lantern was placed in the west end wall, but since the recontruction after the war the signals from the lantern have come from the eastern concrete tower. The lighthouse has been unmanned since 1991, but the Norwegian Weather Office still recives daily weather observations from the station. The lighthouse is more or less as it was when it was abandoned in 1991. Exhibits and café tables are placed in between oil drums and utensils. Anyone is welcome to stay at the lighthouse. The buildings are tastefully furnished and of a good standard. The North Sea is your neighbour. The lighthouse is moreover situated in a historic landscape that has witnessed exciting events in our shipping and agricultural history. There are theme exhibitions on life at the lighthouse and on the second world war. The north sea route passes close by, and a walk or cycle tour along the route gives you a wonderfull journey through the province.
