THE STORY:
Two prominent geocachers (lets call them Dave and Linden)
suffered the same dismal fate at the same dismal time: each lost
his beloved GPS unit. Of course, both of these heartbroken fellows
immediately went online to order newer units with all the latest
bells and whistles.
While awaiting the arrival of their new gadgets -- and unable to
pursue their favorite sport in the meantime -- both cachers found
themselves with idle time to burn. Incredibly, each decided to take
up a new (albeit temporary) pursuit: golf. Even more amazingly,
both Dave and Linden chose the same course and the same tee time.
Dave teed on the Front Nine, while Linden began on the Back
Nine.
It soon became apparent, however, that this sport might not be
so easy to learn as geocaching. Dave teed off from N 29º 40.607 W
95º 31.345. He drove his ball in the direction of 280º true, only
to watch it sail into the woods.
Linden fared no better. His ball blasted away from the Number 10
Tee (N 29º 40.507 W 95º 31.543) on a bearing of 20º true.
Unfortunately, it sailed too far and disappeared into the same
copse of trees as Dave's ball.
Each of these cachers-cum-golfers struck out in search of their
golf balls. With one more incredible flourish of luck, each arrived
at the spot where the paths of their golf balls crossed at the
exact same moment. Before long Dave and Linden were swapping
caching stories, exchanging devious container tips, and hashing
over various puzzle cache solutions -- and had forgotten all about
golf.
To celebrate this chance encounter, they decided to hide a new
cache at the exact spot they met. Since neither Dave nor Linden had
a GPS unit for the moment, however, they would have to return later
to mark the coordinates. Can you beat them to the site?
THE CACHE:
Enter through the front gate of Emanuel Memorial Park (gates
open from 8:00am-5:00pm; closed Saturdays). Once you've parked and
struck out for the calculated coordinates, you'll be looking for a
camouflaged BioKips container. Inside you'll find a logbook, a pen,
and a nice assortment of ornamental bookmarks. Do not disturb the
nearby hive of honeybees and they probably won't bother you. (If
you happen to be the allergic half of Cherokeecacher, you should
probably let the non-allergic half attempt this one). Have fun!
