How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

A chance to give back to the community. Bring your gloves and your strong back to help clean up a site that attracts trash from both east, west, north and south as cars on Highway 80 and jetsam (or is that flotsam?) from the Savannah River collects at this Parks Rec facility. Here's our chance to clean up our town before G8.

In keeping with the geocaching.com cache in, trash out theme and the upcoming EarthDay (April 22), I invite you to make a difference. We will meet at the trail head as you drive onto Tybee Island (coordinates listed above). Please park well off of the main road.I plan to officially start at 09:00 am and finish around noon / lunch time. The more geocachers, the better. I'm working on some extras, and another cache or two that I should have all planned out for this side of Savannah, posted and approved before event day.The local Chatham County Park System accepts help from all directions. The real bonus is after we gather the trash and bag it (I'll provide bags), the County will pick it up and dispose of it for us. (visit link) I'll also provide some bottled water. There are some portable toilets on site. Please post a note to RSVP if you can to help me plan this event. No 'finds' posted until after the event though. I will have a log book there! and I'm not shy about the delete button. The trail extends three miles one direction and three miles the other direction. Most trash is concentrated around the middle trailhead. The Fort Pulaski trailhead is relatively clean, so I chose this trailhead since it needs the most work.Note: There is a 5K at Fort Rulaski at 08:00 am if that's also your thing. It's in support of Chatham County's Oatland Island Education Center, which is either a small zoo or the biggest nature center you've ever seen. It's worth supporting and visiting.
